The South Windsor High School girls lacrosse team traveled to Rham on Tuesday, April 23rd to take on the Raptors. The Bobcats left with a victory and an ending score of 16-4. Even though the Bobcats are more of a defensive team, on Tuesday, the attack dominated.

Though Coach LaPorte is a new addition to this team of already strong lacrosse players, he has been able to make a positive impact on the girls so far this season. The Bobcats currently hold a record of 6-1 with just a few more weeks left in the season.

Number 17, Junior midfielder, Hailey Deptula protects the ball around a sea of defense.

“More people have been contributing with goals, and the new coach has been making a strong effort to encourage everyone to play to their best ability,” sophomore Jillian Yelle commented.

The Bobcats have been working on strengthening their attack through passing and making plays up the field. Tuesday’s game reflected all this work.

Junior captain and Siena commit, Hailey Deptula, led the scoring with six goals against the Raptors.

Teammates Mady Syme, Jillian Yelle, Lily Facario, Fiona Downes, Kaitlyn Foster and Riley Boyle also scored goals in this game.

“Even though I couldn’t play because of my injury, I loved watching everyone work together and see the victory over RHAM,” senior Kaitlyn Hardy commented. Although Hardy is currently unable to play due to an injury, she hopes for a quick recovery and to rejoin the girls on the field soon. Hardy plans to continue playing lacrosse after she graduates, and has committed to Anderson University in the fall.

Number 27, Junior midfielder, Mady Syme cradles the ball around the defense as she makes her way towards the goal.

Another senior essential to the team’s success is star goalkeeper Catherine Downes. Downes is committed to play lacrosse at Stetson University in the fall. Without her saving multiple goals against RHAM, the score may have been different.  Downes adds a great personality and strong leadership to the team as she has had a phenomenal season so far.

The Bobcats next game is home, May 1st against Southington. They are looking forward to this challenge as Southington is the best team they will play this season and are hoping to pull out a win to keep their winning streak.
