Erin Martin is a senior at South Windsor High School, entering her fourth year as an athlete for the girls varsity basketball team. Her impact on the court has shown a large presence, earning her the captain role this year. Martin began playing basketball at just four years old, and since then, the sport has become a huge part of her life.
Besides playing for South Windsor, Erin has competed at a high level with the Connecticut Starters team. Playing AAU basketball allows her to compete and play the sport she loves year round, at the highest level.
For Martin, the best part of basketball goes beyond scoring points and winning games.
“My favorite part about playing basketball is being able to make connections and play with my friends,” Martin said. Martin expressed that those relationships were what pushed her everyday to excel.
Some of Martin’s favorite memories while playing basketball have come when it mattered the most. “Being in tight games in the final minutes and winning is definitely my favorite memory,” she told The Prowl. As a point guard, Martin takes the driver’s seat during these moments and leads her team to success.
“She’s very reliable and you can trust her with the ball,” Senior teammate Samantha Roux told The Prowl.
Looking ahead, Martin plans to continue playing basketball in college, aiming to prove herself at the next level.
Martin’s excited about what’s to come as the Bobcats prepare for their upcoming games and the rest of the season.
“I think we have a lot of potential this year with a new coach and a lot of energy,” Martin stated. As a senior captain, she knows leadership will be a deciding factor, adding, “I’ll use my leadership to push the team and keep everyone focused.”
As the season continues, Erin Martin’s leadership, varsity experience, and love for the sport will be a major reason why the Bobcats will make noise this year in the CCC. Whether it’s by pacing the game or encouraging her teammates in practice, Martin is a born leader. Her impact on the team goes far beyond wins or losses, making her a handful for opposing teams to deal with this year.
