On Friday, June 5th, the SWHS Educators Rising club held its Splash the Teacher fundraiser. The event entailed donating a dollar or more to the cause, picking a teacher, filling their bucket with the corresponding amount of water, and, ultimately, splashing the teacher with the most amount of water in their bucket at the end of each wave.
Wave 1 featured science teachers Mr. Carlson and Ms. Snyder, with Carlson getting splashed. Wave 2 had History teacher Mr. Garrish and English teacher Mr. Hawie, with both teachers getting splashed after Hawie volunteered. Math teachers Ms. Goslin and Corealle were both a part of wave 3, with Goslin getting splashed. Finally, 4th wave featured Spanish teacher Mr. Orsini and personal finance teacher Mr. Hodge, and Orsini got splashed.
Ed Rising leader, Sarah Lambert talked about the inspiration for this fundraiser idea. “I saw the idea on Instagram Reels and I thought it was really fun,” Lambert told The Prowl, “so I presented it as an option to the club and we voted on it.”
Educators Rising is a program that helps students who are interested in becoming teachers explore the education field and prepare for their future careers. The Splash the teacher fundraiser helps support the club’s activities and opportunities. Later this month, Ed Rising plans to head to Portland, Oregon for their National Conference, where they will continue to develop their teaching and leadership skills.
English teacher Mr. Hawie, who was a part of wave 2, talked about his experience participating in the fundraiser. “It was super fun! [The day] was nice and toasty, and it was refreshing to get dunked,” he tells The Prowl. “I volunteered in my wave because it seemed fun to get splashed!”
This fundraiser was organized in order for the club to raise money for their trip to Portland for their conference. By the end of the fundraiser, they managed to reach around 200 dollars, exceeding their initial goal.
“I’m not personally going to the conference but, a lot of my club members are excited to compete with other schools from all over the country and see things in Portland,” Lambert explained.
By exceeding its fundraising goal and creating a fun, engaging environment through friendly competition, Splash the Teacher proved to be a successful event for the Educator Rising Members, demonstrating the support they have from both students and teachers throughout the school community.
