Start of the CIAC State Tournament Game, Bristol Eastern versus South Windsor.

On Monday, February 27th, the Girls Varsity Basketball team participated in the CIAC States Tournament for the first time since 2016. The Bobcats hosted the Bristol Eastern Eagles for their final game of the 2022-2023 season.

The Lady Bobcats had a final record of 13-7 which secured their spot in two highly competitive tournaments: Central Connecticut Conference and the CIAC State Tournament. South Windsor lost to Conard High School on February 16 with a final score of 45-72 knocking the Bobcats out of the CCC’s. The season continued and the State Tournament crept closer.

An even match-up for the first round of the State Tournament kept the score close throughout the game. The Bobcats finished the first quarter with a three-point lead over the Eagles and continued to fight throughout the second half. Unfortunately, Bristol Eastern outscored the Bobcats 46-52, bringing the SWHS Girls Varsity season to a close.

Despite the loss, the Lady Bobcats congratulated one another on their accomplishments in the 2022-2023 season. The Bobcats were honored to join 31 other talented teams, knowing that only one would claim the State title. “It was great making it to the tournament this year. We had an amazing season. Personally, for me, I was very proud of what we were able to accomplish this year. Being a senior, it was a great way to end my high school career, and I couldn’t be more proud of the team,” said senior Anna Matus.

The Girls Basketball team is determined to return next winter with another memorable season and will continue to improve during their time away from the court.

“We fought hard the entire game and should have won, but sometimes the outcome of the game isn’t what you expect. I know that everyone on the team got stronger throughout the season, we will be ready to fight even harder next year,” said junior Reagan Heafey-DeAngelis.
