This week, South Windsor High School marked World Kindness Day with a colorful and uplifting exhibition that transformed the school’s windows into a canvas of positive messages. Organized by the Interact Club, the initiative aimed to remind students and staff that even small gestures of kindness can have a big impact.
Early on November 13, students walking through the corridors were greeted by hand-written phrases such as “Kindness is key,” “Find happiness,” and “Treat everyone with kindness.” Bright illustrations and slogans, from “Bee kind” to “Spread kindness,” decorated the windows, creating a cheerful and encouraging atmosphere. One of the most beloved quotes, “Be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud,” served as a constant reminder that even tiny acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day.
The Interact Club also distributed kindness coins and communication slips for students to write notes to each other during lunch, ensuring that the spirit of kindness extended beyond the windows.
“We realized that our school would be too big for just post-it notes, so we decided to put up window drawings so people couldn’t take them down,” said Mrs. McGinn, one of the organizers.
Students and teachers alike appreciated the effort.
“You never know the silent battles people are fighting, so always be kind,” said 12th grader Sofia Barona.
English teacher Mrs. Lindsay Smith added, “Kindness is important because everyone deserves to feel special and seen.”
Throughout the day, students paused to admire the artwork, take photos, and reflect on the messages. Many agreed that the decorated windows added warmth to the school environment and made the day especially memorable.
The Interact Club emphasized that their goal was simple: to spread positivity. While World Kindness Day happens only once a year, they hope the inspiration and good vibes will last far longer. Through their artwork and messages, the club highlighted what South Windsor High already embraces: kindness is essential every day.
