The National Honors Society offered tutoring for exam and midterm review at South Windsor High School on January 5th, and January 12th, 2026.
In the 2025-2026 school year, the midterm exam schedule regarding the order of classes has changed, with exam dates ranging from January 16th to January 23rd.
Many students began to study, but were unable to find quiet and workable study spaces where they can ask questions to those who are knowledgeable on a multitude of subjects and topics. The NHS Exam Review served as a solution to this problem.
Hosted in the cafeteria, student tutors from the NHS Exam Review Committee, including SWHS seniors Benjamin Bolduc and Izabel Dzubin, helped students with their studies and review questions they may have before midterms.
“This will help students for midterms because it is a safe space to quietly discuss and review any questions that you may have, or just study!” Ioana Luangpraseuth, president of NHS, told The Prowl. “Some people may be too scared to ask ‘dumb questions’ to their teacher, so by putting them in an environment where they can study with people the same age, it gives them a more comfortable approach to learning.”
Luangpraseuth also noted that since the review session is run by students, tutees can receive “first-hand advice” from students who have already taken the class, and therefore, the exam.
“The biggest challenges that students face when preparing for exams are procrastination and learned helplessness. Students – I am also guilty of this – struggle with putting off their 20 page study guide because it looks like way too much work, but in reality, it only hurts them when they sit down for the exam,” Luangpraseuth added.
Ninth grader Ava Anthony attended the Exam Review. “The exam review day from the NHS helped me by providing a space suitable to study. The cafeteria was quiet, which helped me stay focused and concentrate. Many kids were in the cafe working hard and studying with peers or by themselves. Working in the cafe was extremely helpful and was a useful resource,” Anthony said.
During the event, NHS provided attendees with baked goods like brownies, snickerdoodle cookies, and chocolate chip muffins, as they worked through the study materials provided for them by their teachers.
Studying ahead of time is a necessary part of preparing for midterm exams, and the NHS Exam Review Committee helped show SWHS students how to best take action to be well prepared before test day.
