On November 3rd, 2025, a new group of 11th and 12th grade students were inducted into South Windsor High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society. This year’s ceremony was held in the auditorium of South Windsor High School, and welcomed 75 new inductees into the organization.
The National Honor Society, sometimes referred to as NHS, is a national organization that recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence among four “pillars”; scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
South Windsor High School’s branch of the NHS is known as the William R. Wood Chapter, named for prominent South Windsor resident William R. Wood, whose son would go on to establish the Wood Memorial Library. The Wood family was recognized for their acts of service and valuable contributions to South Windsor over the years.
The inductees were nominated for their GPA of 3.75 or higher, and were selected through a review process that took into consideration the student’s involvement, both inside and out of their school community.
On preparing for the event, NHS secretary Olivia Stoner tells The Prowl,
“The executive board arrived early to practice our speeches, set up the banner, and set up the candles. We then practiced the ceremony with the soon to be inductees and the returning members. We worked alongside Mrs. Leone to make sure everything went smoothly. Huge thank you to the volunteers that came to help out.”
Inductees arrived early to receive a bright blue robe, traditionally worn by NHS inductees during the ceremony. Students were then lined up in alphabetical order to process into the auditorium. Current NHS seniors walked amongst the new members as part of the procession.
Parents and family members of the inductees, as well as members of SWHS administration arrived for the beginning of the ceremony at 6:30.
The ceremony began with speeches from this year’s executive board; Ioana Luangpraseuth, Arushi Sharma, Aahana Roy, Ritthika Rajasekaran, and Olivia Stoner. Each member emphasized the importance of the pillars of the National Honor Society.
Following the speeches, the inductees stood together to recite the National Honor Society pledge, led by president Ioana Luangpraseuth, swearing to abide by the bylaws of the SWHS chapter.
New members were then called by name to walk one by one across the stage, receiving their certificate of membership from secretary Olivia Stoner.
Finally, the event concluded with refreshments in the lobby, including cake served by NHS volunteers.
New inductee Jane Carty told The Prowl,
“I thought it was a really well run event. The NHS chairs were very committed to making the event seamless and have a good flow.”
