On Friday, November 16th, boys and girls Swim and Dive came together to hold their annual swimathon, which was a fundraising event for future swimmers. To donate money, the swimmers pledged an amount of money for every lap they swam.

“The swimathon is a way to raise funds for the swim team so we can buy things for the team,” said Laura McLaughlin, coach of both the swim teams. “[For example], if we raise enough money, we try to buy towels and other necessities.”

The swimathon marked the end of the girls swim and dive season, being the last swimming event where all the teammates could come together one more time. It was also the start to the boy’s season, which will begin in December.

This was the swim team’s second year holding the swimathon, and they are eager to have it again. “It’s a fun way to raise money and create a better relationship between the boys and girls swim team,” said Coach McLaughlin.

As a fun way to bring the two teams together, the swimmers all participated in a large group relay and raced each other. All the swimmers swam their required amount of laps, and in the end they played games in the water. Overall, the two teams had a great time.

“It was fun! It’s been great making friends and spending time with people [here]. We just had fun as a team, swam laps and made money,” said Anna Fetzco, a freshman swimmer.

“It was really lighthearted because we got to do it with our friends and give money to the team. Overall it was great to spend time with my teammates and friends I made this season,” Harini Sambandam, a sophomore, said.

In the end, the swimathon was a great success. The swimmers all had a great time, and the team is very excited to hold this event again.
