Recently, several children have been hospitalized with what most doctors thought was Coronavirus, but research is showing that these children may not have the coronavirus after all. Instead, new findings are suggesting that this mysterious illness could be even worse than Covid-19.

Already, three New York kids have died of this inflammatory syndrome disease, which could be linked to the coronavirus. Another 73 kids have tested positive for this new disease.

According to CNN, doctors are labelling the condition as “pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome,” which could be linked to Covid-19.

Currently, New York, the state with the most cases of the illness is investigating, “if the cases contradict the belief that children are less at risk for coronavirus and what other hospitals should look out for.”

Symptoms of the syndrome are not the same as children who have coronavirus, but instead, have symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease and toxic shock syndrome.

Pediatrician Dr. Glenn Budnick says that, “your immune system is overreacting to the virus, and because these are inflammatory diseases, this overreaction can cause a Kawasaki-like disease.”

The syndrome, according to the New York Times, “affects the skin, the eyes, blood vessels and the heart.”

As of right now, New York health departments are studying 85 cases of children, with most of them having tested positive for coronavirus. Governor Andrew M. Cumo tells parents to look out for a prolonged fever, severe abdominal pain, change in skin color, racing heart, and chest pain in young adolescents.

The key to fighting the disease is early detection. The disease can be treated, but will work better when you see the symptoms earlier. It has come to the impression of many doctors that young people are not being infected by Covid-19, but instead, they are being affected by another disease only found in children.
