The South Windsor Fire Department has announced they are selling tickets as of this week for their annual summer car wash on June 27th. The car wash serves as a way to support the Doug Warren Memorial Scholarship while simultaneously giving back to the community with a kind, convenient service.
“Doug Warren was an advisor who passed away from brain cancer,” Fire fighter and Explorer Post advisor, Robin Pendleton said. “In remembrance of him the explorer post, with the help of the fire department, started a car wash to help raise money for a scholarship explorers can apply for.”
The annual tradition is a great way to support the fire department and its young explorers, giving them an opportunity to explore multiple career paths through their passion for the fire service. The event also serves as a department bonding activity, with firefighters, chiefs, explorers, and more coming together to help the community.
This event is most important to the Fire Explorers, being their biggest fundraiser of the year and centered solely around them.
“This is important for explorers, not just for the funds, but also to give opportunities to those who seek higher education,” Sophomore and Fire Explorer Gary Hebert said.
To advertise the fundraiser, the department has begun selling tickets to the carwash; $5 for one car wash. In addition, residents may see posters around town advertising the event and encouraging support for the fire department. In addition, each explorer is tasked with selling 5 tickets, a great initiative to spread the word about the event that many may not be aware of.
The car wash will occur from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM, giving plenty of time for residents to bring as many cars as they want to get washed as long as they have the tickets necessary. Residents can expect quick and thorough cleaning of their car including windshield, windows, and tires.
With last year’s car wash not being held, there are high hopes for this year and a lot of expectations for the explorer post. Success won’t be possible without community support and spreading word of the car wash across the town and maybe even neighboring towns. It is an easy form of support in exchange for the safety the fire department provides South Windsor 24/7. There is no better opportunity as a town to support a necessary service while receiving a convenient and kind act.
