As of May 2026, the South Windsor High School community received exciting news that current AP Government teacher Mrs. Lindsay McGinn accepted the role of Associate Principal effective during the 2026-2027 school year.
McGinn’s Journey as an educator has been defined by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to students. Her passion for helping others consistently drew her toward opportunities where she could make an even greater impact on the school community.
Whether it was developing curriculum, running grade-level events like prom and graduation, or serving as the Social Studies Department Head, the longtime educator has put full effort into every role she has taken on. Her ability to connect with students while balancing leadership responsibilities has made her a highly respected and popular figure throughout the building.
McGinn’s journey with education started while she was supporting herself in college.
“I began substitute teaching to make ends meet—and I absolutely fell in love with it. There is a unique energy to working with young adults; you all remind us to relax and not take life quite so seriously. My motivation has evolved through my own love of learning,” McGinn told The Prowl.
What began as a part time job to cover expenses transformed into a long term career, eventually pushing the Social Studies veteran toward larger leadership roles within education. The move toward administration came after years of recognizing her strengths outside the classroom.
“I realized I had a passion for building leadership capacity in others. After 19 years in the classroom, I felt ready to make that move official. I realized I find immense satisfaction in supporting the ‘big picture’ and helping everyone around me succeed,” McGinn explained.
Throughout her career, McGinn became known for being able to mentor both students and colleagues alike, making her transition into administration effortless.
When asked about her feelings regarding her new position, she described it as a dream come true.
“I felt incredibly proud. After almost twenty years in education, being offered a leadership role in a district as respected as South Windsor is a massive honor,” McGinn said. “Often, educators have to leave the community they love to find a promotion, so I feel remarkably fortunate that I get to stay right here and serve my own community. Honestly, I still have to pinch myself sometimes.”
McGinn’s excitement and gratitude reflect the powerful connection she has built with South Windsor High School over nearly two decades of service.
The new position will look very different from her years leading a classroom, particularly regarding the number of students her impact will reach.
“As a teacher, your world is usually defined by the four walls of your classroom and the 120 or so students on your roster. You develop deep connections there, which I will always cherish. In this new role, however, my ‘classroom’ has expanded to the entire building. I now have the privilege of supporting 1,400+ students and over 200 staff members, as well as our parents and families,” McGinn told The Prowl.
Although the responsibilities have expanded, McGinn emphasized that her core mission remains the same: creating an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to succeed.
McGinn’s students have responded to the news with pride, a sign of the impact she has had on the classes she has taught.
“Ms. McGinn is incredibly deserving of her new position! She is a teacher that ensures that every student is successful, and she always does so with a smile on her face. I absolutely loved having her as my AP Gov teacher, and I really hope she is successful in the future,” Junior Mia Santiago commented.
Students and staff across the building share that view, describing the upcoming administrator as an outstanding educator, a mentor, and a role model within the South Windsor community. Her promotion represents an exciting new chapter for her career and the future of South Windsor High School.
