On April 24, 2026, South Windsor High School held its opening night for the theatre department’s production of the play, Puffs. The original play by Matt Cox retells the Harry Potter story from the perspective of the “Puffs,” the spunky but often overlooked house at a magical school. The play follows these characters over the course of their 7 years studying at a certain magical school for witches and wizards.
General tickets for the play were 10 dollars, while tickets for children were 5 dollars. The show ran from Friday April 24 through the 26th, starting at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 1:00 pm on Sunday.
Opening night was a rousing success, with people gushing with excitement and praise upon exiting the SWHS auditorium. The stage was adorned by student made set pieces, crafted with diligence and care. Yellow banners and intricate posters created an immersive set design that drew the watchers into the world of the Puffs throughout the duration of the play.
“Honestly it was the small moments when we were all together, and working together. The battle scene, for example. Moments like these made the whole show worth it, and I really got to connect with people I performed with,” Freshman Liliana Flynn, playing Keanne Hannah, told The Prowl.
There was a lot of work going into production, at the start it was memorizing the lines in the chorus room while the props crew was building props for the play,” cast member Nikshita Ganesh told The Prowl. “We used our pre-existing walls and set pieces from the musical and we were able to reuse them for the play. Overall a lot of work went into making sure the 3 shows went smoothly and the best they could be.”
On production of the Play, Ganesh explained, “Joann Varghese, Emma Curley, Lana Kim and I all made art and designs for the posters (I made the overall logo for the play). There’s also the sound design, the people who worked on sound and lights also were a massive support with the special effects (including Adeline Curylo, Maddie Edwards, Victoria Hall, Blaze Hartley and Maddy Cordeiro), the Stage crew who made sure costume changes and scene changes happened on time (Isabell King, Robert King, Zia Casionan, Noah Milheiro, Luhann Kim, and Noah Benson) and of course the Stage Manager Reyan Menon and the Assistant Stage Manager Arthur Vautour.”
Audience member and English teacher at SWHS Ms. Kesley truly enjoyed her experience.
“The kids did a great job putting together an incredible play,” Kelsey said. “It was magical, and the set design was amazing. I particularly enjoyed any scenes with Voldemort, like the pilates scene. It was hilarious.”
