On Saturday April 18th, The Wicked Press, opened a location in South Windsor. This coffee-book store blends the comfort of a warm drink with the charm of books, creating an ambience that stands out in the South Windsor Community. This unique cafe offers a place to slow down and connect with others, with an atmosphere that feels just like home.
The vision behind Wicked Press came from owner Alyssa Smith, who wanted to expand the idea of the typical coffee shop into something more interactive and creative.
“Smith’s goal was to create a warm space that was ‘inclusive’ and ‘open’ to all. Her dream was to create a cozy climate centered on coffee, tea and books,” Wicked Press employee Cheyenne told The Prowl.
From the soft lighting and string lights, to an entire wall filled with books, every detail of this coffee shop contributes to its pleasant atmosphere. The couches and tables filling the area invite visitors to stay awhile, while leaving copious amounts of room for people to walk through the shop and discover new books or new latte flavors.
Instead of rushing in and out, visitors have the chance to read a novel, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a relaxing moment alone. This cafe offers a break from busy daily life, making it a special addition to the area.
Opening day customer, Jamie Howe, shared her excitement about the shop’s opening with the Prowl.
“I drove over 50 minutes to come home for its opening day, and it did not disappoint; the vibes are cozy, coffee-fueled, and there’s something for everyone. It’s a book-lover’s dream,” Howe said.

The Wicked Press stands out for its creative coffee menu, with its unique drinks, intertwining both literature and lattes for customers to enjoy. Along with classic options, the cafe offers flavorful drinks that mix sweetness and spice, giving customers something new to try each time. Whether you prefer something simple or adventurous, there’s a drink for everyone.
One of the main attractions of this coffee shop is their book collection, providing books for everyone to enjoy. Genres range from Mystery to Fantasy, with Young Adult, Dark Romance, Historical Fiction, and so much more. Employees are available to assist customers with finding a book they’d enjoy.
As The Wicked Press begins to grow, it has the potential to become a central gathering place for locals. Whether people come for coffee, the books, or the atmosphere, they leave with a sense of comfort and connection. In a fast paced world, places like this are rare, which is what makes the Wicked Press so special.
