The South Windsor boys golf team has had a successful start to their season thus far, being ranked #2 in the CCC conference and #14 in the state.
They are currently ranked 5-1 as of April 23, 2026, and their initiative has been recognized by boys golf coach LB Gray.
“I feel we have a very talented, motivated squad. The players have been willing to put in extra time and effort to improve their games,” Gray said.
Coach Gray has been a major contributor to the team’s success this year, propelling his team forward to a near-perfect record. Several team members praised Gray for his pre-game rituals, which always consist of reducing tensions and nervousness.
This calm, positive environment was especially helpful when the South Windsor squad defeated RHAM on their own course.
“We defeated a top competitor in our division, RHAM, who were the CCC champions last year,” senior Israel Rivera said. “I feel like we prepared a little better this year.”
Defeating the defending CCC champions is an impeccable feat and serves as a testament to the South Windsor boys golf team’s intensity entering the year, especially considering it happened on their own turf.
The achievements accomplished by the team has not gone unnoticed by members of the team either, as they have become increasingly enthusiastic as the season progresses.
“The boys are putting up some good scores, and if we keep it up we have a good chance of winning states this year,” senior Landon Ayotte said.
Ultimately, the final goals for the team this year is to qualify for the state tournament, which is done by finishing in the top 16 schools in our division, and to finish the season with a seed higher than the one they started with. The emergence of new, rising stars within the team is sure to make these tasks easier.
“Freshman Evan Pinkin is an amazing talent and already an accomplished golfer — he bodes well for SW Golf’s future,” Gray told The Prowl. “We also have rising stars, juniors Blake Lyons, Will Ryan, and Ryan Sweeney, who have each made significant contributions, as well as Elias Coleman and Brendan Bousquet who are adding depth and quickly becoming key contributors.”
It should not be lost that it is extremely early into the season, and too early to make any definitive conclusions. However, it is beginnings like this that allow the team to hit the ground running, and provide them with enough momentum to finish the year strong.
The boys golf team heads to Ellington Ridge on Monday, April 27 in what is anticipated to be their toughest matchup yet. It will be determined whether this momentous start of this season will continue to grow into a historic South Windsor boys golf season, or if they are stopped in their tracks and forced to reevaluate themselves.
