On April 8th, 2026 the South Windsor boys volleyball team traveled to West Hartford to continue their strong start to the season, with an impressive 3-1 victory over CCC powerhouse, Conard High School.
Coming off of a dominant performance the day before against Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy (HMTCA) in their season opener, the Cats’ showed strength and endurance loading up the win streak into the week.
Conard entered the matchup as a favorite, with a very impressive season last year reaching the state finals and winning the conference title. Despite several key seniors missing from last season’s team, they still have one of the top setters in the state and a highly talented middle, making them a more than dangerous opponent.
Despite that, South Windsor proved they were ready to step up to the occasion, and make a name for themselves in the CCC.
Early on, both teams traded errors and missed serves, keeping things competitive. However momentum began to shift when Senior Ivan Chen delivered a powerful swing off the block to tie the set at 6-6.
From there, South Windsor found a rhythm, with Senior Captain and Endicott College commit Owen Jerr stunned the Conard players with a powerful spike to close out the set 25-18 in favor of the Cats’.
South crushed Conard in the second set, closing it out 25-12. The Bobcats dictated the pace with powerful serves and excellent digs. On the offensive end, the Cats’ executed a fast paced game, spreading the ball both to Outside Hitter Beckham Hills and Middle Blocker Adrian Mordasiewicz.
“Going in against a strong hitting team is always a challenge, but we took care of business swiftly,” Jerr told The Prowl. “A huge moment for our guys and a great way to start the season.”
With the game going completely in South Windsor’s favor, Conard finally slowly started to take control, capitalizing on a very entertaining third set, but ultimately winning it over the Bobcats just barely 25-20.
During the final set, South Windsor finished what they started, led by Mills controlling the net and Ivan Chen’s outstanding serving run. Ivan Chen scored 6 straight points on Conard, sealing the victory for the Cats’ with a set score of 25-27 over Conard.
“We’re settling the tone quickly and the boys are staying disciplined. We are ready to make a deep run in the playoffs and the CCC’s,” senior Kevin Senh commented.
South Windsor’s next game is away against Norwich Free Academy, this Friday 4/10 at 5:00pm.
