Excited students flooded into the school on the night of Friday, March 27, frantically reviewing facts and checking into the cafeteria for one of the most exciting events of the school year: Student Council’s Trivia Night.
Dozens of students arrived at the event for two hours of intense team-based trivia on topics ranging from Tiktok trends to school history. The night was full of laughs and fun as the teams put their heads together to answer the questions. The trivia was broken into 8 sections about social media, SWHS, games, food, TV, school subjects, and more.
The cafeteria was packed with excited participants, from curious freshmen to upperclassmen with customized team tee-shirts to seniors looking for a place in the top three. Even teachers got in on the fun, with students scrambling to recruit the most in-demand staff members to their teams.
“Trivia night was a big success with over 150 participants and volunteers in attendance, and we had a great showing from both staff and students,” Student Council teacher advisor Haley Stewart said.
The questions favored students ‘in the know’ with today’s trends, from Stranger Things 5 and Needoh to Dubai chocolate and the Hamilton Tiktok videos. After reading the question, teams would write down their answers on colored slips of paper, wager a calculated number of points, and hand the slip off to their designated runner.
Participants were also treated to free pizza and snacks, as well as one free raffle ticket that gave them a chance to win prizes like Starbucks cups, gift cards and school merchandise. In the back of the room, a TV was even brought in displaying March Madness games for basketball fans.
Dozens of volunteers from Student Council were what made the event possible. Many volunteers spent the night running around the cafeteria in order to deliver the colored slips to the managers of the event.
“Trivia Night was very successful this year, with over 33 teams of students and staff participating, we raised enough money to continue supporting Student Council’s yearly activities,” Student Council President Eliza Blanchfield said. “It was an amazing night that gave the SWHS community a chance to connect in a nonacademic setting filled with friendly competition.”
The event was not only a great way to test general knowledge and spend time with friends, but also an opportunity to connect with the school community over popular topics and lighthearted competition.
