Officer Niloshna Courchesne, a former member of the New Britain Police Department is now bringing her experience to the town of South Windsor. With her prior experience in law enforcement, she is now adjusting to her new role in the South Windsor Police Department.
Courchesne said her decision to transfer was influenced by professional growth and a personal connection to South Windsor.
“I know there is a large Indian community in South Windsor, and, as an Indian woman myself, it honors me to serve the community that molded me into the person I am today,” Courchesne told The Prowl.
Reflecting on her time in New Britain Courchesne described the city as fast paced and demanding, an environment she believes prepared her well for her new role.
“There is a lot going on in the city, so I learned a lot while I was there,” she said. “The pace of the city prepared me well to handle the flow of South Windsor.”
Courchesne acknowledged that transitioning to a new department comes with adjustments, particularly in department size and workplace dynamics.
“Since South Windsor is a smaller department than New Britain, it’s much easier to form close relationships with most, if not all, the people you work with. In New Britain, we were all pretty close within each specialty (ie: patrol, detective bureau, etc), but, sometimes you didn’t see some of the people you worked with for weeks because it was such a big building,” Courchesne explained.
Looking ahead, Courchesne said she hopes to become actively involved in the community by attending school events, once her schedule allows. She also plans to continue developing her investigative skills while serving South Windsor’s diverse population.
When asked what advice she would give to young people interested in law enforcement, Courchesne emphasized the importance of perseverance and education.
“Stay in school and keep your head up,” she said. “It’s rewarding at the end. ”
The SWPD is lucky to have Courchesne, and is eager to see what she will bring to the South Windsor Community.
