South Windsor High School’s junior varsity and varsity teams traveled to Glastonbury High School for their second meet of the season. Facing a field of 12 talented teams, South Windsor brought their all and showed significant improvement over their last performance.
Although the competition was fierce, the team’s dedication and practice were reflected in the athletes’ scores across the board. Ahead of her event, hurdler Aaliyah Scott shared her mindset: “I feel a little nervous but excited for the Glastonbury meet. I’m not gonna let anything get to my head and mess up my performance.”
That focus paid off for the whole team. Sophomore Zoe Bailey came out on top in two of her three events, placing first in both the shot put and the 55-meter dash. “I believe winning two events was a huge accomplishment for me,” Bailey said. “Their track is very difficult to run on, but I still ran well.”
The boys’ team also saw strong results, with three runners placing in the top five for the 55-meter dash, while Alexander Larmand secured first place in the 300-meter dash.
The relay teams showed impressive grit, especially with multiple athletes competing in a relay for the very first time. Their hard work resulted in third-place finishes for both the boys’ and girls’ A teams.
By the end of the meet, both teams had racked up a plethora of points. The girls’ team captured first place overall with a dominant total of 111 points, leaving their closest competitor at 44. Meanwhile, the boys’ team brought home a strong second-place finish with 87 points.
Congratulations to both teams on a successful meet, and good luck to all the athletes competing over winter break!
