With December finally here, the South Windsor High School boys basketball team is preparing for their first game of the season against Berlin at home on December 18. After months of off-season training and team chemistry building, the Cats’ are ready to make a mark this winter.
Senior center Ryder Haynes, one of the team’s leaders, shared his mindset to The Prowl.
“My goals this season is to make state and conference playoffs,” Haynes shared. “This year, we have better team chemistry. We’re all friends off the court. I’m looking forward to being back playing basketball for the school.”
The chemistry of the Bobcats is what separates them from other teams. No matter what, win or loss, the boy’s morale stays the same; always prepared for the next battle. From sharing the ball to pushing one another to improve, the roster’s connection has been evident.
For many of the returning seniors, it’s their last chance to show their skillset. Senior Shaurya Ranjan shared what game he was most excited about.
“I can’t wait for our senior night game against RHAM. It’s the perfect moment to celebrate how far we’ve come and leave everything we have out there,” Ranjan said.
The boys still have a couple of days until the first regular season game on the 18th. One last scrimmage on the 12th against Aerospace will help them take this time to finalize starting lineups, roles, positions and gameplans. With high expectations, the Bobcats will be itching for tip-off.
With returning experience at the varsity level and young talent stepping into the shoes of graduated seniors, the Cats’ are diving into the season with something to prove. Their fresh start of a squad could be the reason they’ll compete in a tough conference.
As the home opener approaches, everyone remains excited to pack the gym for the boys first game. The fans of the South Windsor Boys basketball team are in for a season to not forget.
