The third Italian Club Meeting of the 2025-2026 school year took place on Thursday, November 13th. It was hosted by Mia Zaccardelli, an Italian teacher, in room 35 in the South Windsor High School Annex.
Zaccardelli, who has been running the club for nine years since being moved up from Timothy Edwards Middle School, was asked why she started this club.
“I started the club to be able to share some amazing aspects of Italian culture, food, and language with students here at the high school. It’s helpful to attend since you can’t just read about something to really experience it” Zaccardelli told The Prowl.
Students join Italian club to spend time with friends while also learning about Italian culture. Many students enjoy the baking aspect of the club as well.
After school end at 2:00, excited club members slowly pile into the room where the meeting is set to take place.
Tatum Rhodes, a freshman from South Windsor High School, described it as “chill” and “fun”. During the meeting the Italian Club members watched Win or Lose, completed coloring pages, and ate a variety of snacks.
Allie Scott, who’s also a freshman, sat in on the meeting.
“I found out about the Italian club from Ava Irwin. She wanted a few of us to join it all together. The first meeting I went to was a lot of fun and even though I don’t take Italian, it was a great environment. I can’t wait to cook at the next meeting,” Scott said.
Over 20 students are in the Google Classroom and have shown interest in continuing their participation in the club.
As the year goes on, the Italian club hopes to get even more new members to join the club. The agenda for the upcoming meeting gives students a variety of fun activities to try within the Italian culture.
The next Italian Club Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 18, after school in the Annex Kitchen to bake treats such as ricotta cookies, pizzelles, cannoli, and more.
“We’re going to be baking Italian treats during our December meeting, watching Italian movies, doing Italian-themed crafts, playing bocce, Italian lawn bowling in the spring, and making pizza in May, among other things,” Zaccardelli told The Prowl.
Students should consider joining the Italian Club for a blend of crafts and creativity brought into their extracurricular activities for relaxation, entertainment, and learning purposes.
