South Windsor High School junior, Jalil Montgomery, has done an exceptional job this season as a standout running back and linebacker for the South Windsor Bobcats.
Football has been a big part of Montgomery’s life from the very beginning. He told The Prowl about how he started playing football at a young age with the South Windsor Panthers.
His favorite part about playing football is the adrenaline of it but he also says he has played since he was four, and he couldn’t imagine life without it.
“My grandma has influenced me the most due to a close bond we had,” Montgomery said. “Her passing away gave me motivation to fill the big dreams and expectations she had for me.”
Known for his amazing plays and his strong leadership on the field, Montgomery’s teammates describe him funny, chill, and very outgoing.
Montgomery’s devotion to the sport has been the key reason of how he has achieved so many incredible feats this year. He is second in rushing yards for Class L and he is first in the CCC in rushing.
“My best memory so far this year was hitting 1,000 rushing yards,” Montgomery said.
The Prowl also asked Montgomery about his future in football, and he shared that he plans to continue playing in college and pursue football as part of his career.
Montgomery’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, as he was recently interviewed by CT Insider and is currently ranked among the top 10 running backs in the state.
“He’s doing a really good job,” Coach Hodge said “He is playing really hard at practices, and he is having a lot of success. He’s gotten bigger, faster and stronger by spending time in the weight room and working on his speed during track.”
Montgomery was especially proud of the recent Bobcat victory over East Hartford. When asked how the team secured that victory, he proudly answered.
“We had a great practice and the boys were all focused,” Montgomery The Prowl. Everyone put in their work in the game and we had a great game.”
With his leadership and passion for football, Montgomery will continue to be a key player for the South Windsor Bobcats as he looks ahead to playing their rival Enfield at home on Saturday, November 22nd.
