Every day, hundreds of South Windsor High School students line up for lunch, but not everyone leaves the line satisfied.
When students were asked about their least favorite school lunch, there were a variety of answers, but one came up again and again: the grilled cheese and tomato soup. Specifically, the bread of the grilled cheese sandwich is not a fan favorite.
South Windsor High School student, Lily Donovan, who buys lunch every so often shares her thoughts behind why the grilled cheese was a very unpopular choice among students.
“The grilled cheese and tomato soup is bad because the bread they use for everything is supposedly healthy, but it does not taste good,” Donovan told The Prowl. “They need to switch out the bread for something and need to cook them more – it’s a grilled cheese sandwich, not a melted cheese sandwich.”
Donovan reminisces on past lunch menu items, hoping that they will one day make a return to the South Windsor cafeteria.
“An item I wish they would bring back are those confetti pancakes or regular pancakes and waffles for lunch,” Donovan told The Prowl.
As of now, Donovan’s choice is the Bosco Sticks, though it does not come without some complaints.
“My go-to lunch for school is Bosco sticks because they are so good, but the sauce is a little watered down,” Donovan said.
While some meals at South Windsor High School, like the grilled cheese, may not be some students’ favorite, there are many meals that students look forward to buying for their lunch. Other students, Julianna Silva and Riley Haberern, both have their go-to lunches.
“My favorite lunch is pancakes and sausage,” Silva said.
“My favorite lunch is nachos,” Haberern shared.

Analyzing all the lunch options at the high school, there are definitely some clear winners between selections like nachos, Bosco Sticks, and pancakes and sausage.
Whether lunch time is something you look forward to everyday or just a constant in your school day, it’s an important time of the day. It plays a big role in students’ daily mood and energy in classroom settings.
Therefore, it is important to our school administration that there are numerous options for students in cases where they don’t enjoy a certain meal.
This way, even if the cafeteria is serving meals that some students may avoid, they can still have something to fall back on to keep themselves energized and ready to learn for the remainder of the school day.
