On November 5th, South Windsor High Schools boys and girls cross country teams met to reflect and celebrate the 2025 season at their end of year banquet, held in the SWHS cafeteria.
Girls cross country, led by Coach Clint Bowman, had a successful season, finishing the fall with a 14-4 record.
They performed well at the state championships as well, with all seven varsity runners achieving a personal record during the meet.
In addition to team performance, three members of the girls varsity team received Central Connecticut Conference All Conference honors: Senior Sofia Holovatska, junior Rachel Matyschsyk, and freshman Saanvi Nigam.
The freshman girls also had an incredible season, winning the freshman race showcasing their potential for next year.
This honor shows their commitment and hard work.
On the other hand, the boys cross country team had a good run. It was the best year the team has had in recent memory, going 8-10.
At the banquet, underclassmen celebrated their seniors by giving speeches.
“This year’s group of seniors is so special because they really brought the team together and made this year so memorable. We all look up to them so much and I know they will be dearly missed,” Junior Jane Carty reflects on her experience as a member of the team.

Some of the seniors have been running since middle school, and hearing the underclassman’s kind words was a great way to celebrate their accomplishments not just as runners but as people.
“The SWHS XC team has become a second family for me. Every time we sit together, laugh together, and celebrate our shared hard work, I’m reminded why this team is so special,” A member of the boys team, Luca Corticelli said. “Our end of the year banquet provides that special moment for us that we share.”
