Students within the South Windsor High School are granted the opportunity to be taken on a school trip to Spain and Italy through the schools “Travel Club”. Due to the increased interest in attending this out of country journey, the school has begun to offer more possibilities for travel.
Flyers and papers have been filling the hallways of South Windsor High School, grabbing the attention of many students. Whether the students are becoming aware of the trip through those papers, or hearing about it just from how popular it is through the hallways, students of all grades are urgently waiting for the next openings to be offered.
For the nearest upcoming trip, around 50 students are visiting Spain and Italy in the spring of 2026. These students will visit multiple famous cities while also learning about the history of the countries, visiting historical sites, restaurants, museums, and more.
In order to apply for the opportunity, students attended a meeting with leaders of the club and then wrote an essay outlining their interest in the trip. From there, the students’ responses were carefully read over and reviewed to determine the candidates.
Sophomore Evelyn Castro is planning on attending a trip in upcoming years.
“I decided to join the travel club because I have always wanted to travel with my friends around the world. I heard about the club from other friends who saw the flyers, so we all decided to join together,” Evelyn Castro said.
In the past, the school has offered this trip once every other year. However, due to its rising popularity, the school is now taking two trips in the spring of 2026, and all spots have been filled.

The travel club often changes their destination every year or two, for example, in April of 2024, the club visited Spain and France. Students who have attended these trips in the past have come back filled with memories, once in a lifetime experiences, and a further education on the countries and their language.
In previous years, students visited places like museums, historical sites, monuments, famous buildings, and so much more. An example of one of these sites is the ancient city of Toledo, Spain, where students got the opportunity to become educated on the 3 Abrahamic religions in the city. Similar historical sites are expected to be added to the itineraries of future trips in upcoming years.
A student who attended the previous trip to Spain and France, senior Eliza Blanchfield, was very pleased with the outcome of the trip and all the education learned and memories created while she took this journey with the Travel club.
“Traveling abroad with the school was an amazing experience, it introduced my peers and I to so many different cultural traditions; we had the opportunity to watch flamenco, try french cuisine, visit the big tourist attractions, etc,” Blanchfield told The Prowl.
