An exhilarating part of the Halloween experience is driving through town and seeing all of the scary skeletons, pop up cats, and creepy lights. Decorating houses is a big part of the Halloween tradition, making South Windsor feel like a community.
My friends and I decided we wanted to go around town and check out all of the different houses, something fun we could do to enjoy the Halloween experience. This is an activity any person can do. South Windsor is a great place to drive around and check out because of all the spirit the town has.
One of Connecticut’s State Representatives, Tom Delnicki, who lives in South Windsor is notorious for crazy decorations. He goes all out for lots of holidays and decorates his front yard with mesmerizing decor. Visiting his home during any holiday is stunning. There were tons of blow up decorations like a hand with an eyeball and a creepy tree this Halloween season.
“I think that it is so cool to be able to experience Halloween in South Windsor, especially seeing how spirited we all are,” SWHS senior Jasmine Sackey said.
Continuing to drive through the town, you might come across more beautifully decorated houses like 9 Birch Hill Drive and 476 Felt Road. You might want to stop and admire how whimsical and attractive the decor is. They threw in everything like ghosts, lights, and even creepy skeletons.
Arriving at 120 Scott Drive, which was one of my personal favorites. I loved the purple lights and the humongous skeleton that was almost as big as the house. The decoration gave off an edgy vibe, and it really encapsulated the Halloween experience.
Residents really enjoyed seeing all the decor that makes Halloween a truly fun experience. South Windsor makes this holiday unique because of all the diverse houses and knickknacks with trinkets. Many love the spirit of Halloween and think it’s super fun to spruce things up, especially for the kids in town.
“Decorating my house is something everyone in my family participates in and it’s fun putting them up and seeing how it turns out after,” SWHS senior Alanna Larmand said. “Some decorations are cute and some are scary but they are all fun!”
Halloween is also a time to bring other people together, being able to decorate while dressing up and having fun is a staple for this fall holiday. I personally love decorating and being able to draw in different families while trick or treating with these fun decorations.
“Halloween decorations are significant because it’s something everyone can participate in: kids and adults,” Larmand said. “They add lots to the trick or treating experience and the fall experience in general.”
As we move through the year, we hope for many more decorations for fall, Thanksgiving, and other holidays, so we are able to see how much spirit South Windsor has. I love seeing all the different aesthetics of the houses and hope to bring holiday cheer to families when they drive by my house and many other houses.
