South Windsor, a town of amazing outdoor parks and facilities, proudly unveiled its latest gem – the Outdoor Fitness Center at Nevers Park.
This project was run by Molly Keays, the Director of Parks and Recreation, and this new fitness space is set to redefine the community’s approach to staying active.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, access to traditional fitness facilities was limited…Nevers Park in South Windsor saw increased use for various recreational activities” Keays explained, reflecting on the start of this project.
The gym became a reality thanks to support from the community and strategic funding. Keays gives credit to the American Rescue Plan Act and local groups like the Max Challenge of South Windsor for their generosity.
It looks very promising, and I can’t wait to keep going!
The Outdoor Fitness Center features cutting-edge Kompan exercise equipment thoughtfully selected to accommodate a wide range of fitness abilities and age groups.
Whether you’re just starting your fitness journey or you’re a seasoned athlete, there’s equipment tailored to your needs. This deliberate selection ensures that inclusivity and accessibility are prioritized, welcoming individuals of all backgrounds and capabilities to engage in physical activity within the community space.
“We hope the fitness space will become a wonderful addition to the park, where our community can freely use the facilities,” Keays said.
Keays sees the fitness space as a place for everyone to come together and be active. Unlike regular gyms, here you’re encouraged to do things your way.
Additionally, QR codes on each machine help you figure out what to do, and there’s a Kompan Fitness App to guide you with workouts and keep track of your progress.
The Outdoor Fitness Center at Nevers Park opened on May 15, 2024, marking a new era of healthy living in South Windsor. This space will be central to community well-being, and promote vitality and strength for years to come.
