Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a prominent organization throughout America. While many schools have their chapters, they also connect through their state FBLA group. On March 12, South Windsor’s Mihika Joshi was chosen as Connecticut’s FBLA Vice President for the 2024-2025 school year.

Currently, Joshi is a sophomore and has been a part of FBLA for the past two years. Within the club, they do a lot of organizational activities. “We often facilitate fundraisers and recruitment events to raise money for local businesses,” said Joshi in an interview with the Prowl.

Joshi already has experience within the state FBLA, as she has been serving on the State Council of Secretary for this past academic year. This means that she worked under state officers and learned how the State FBLA chapter worked. CT FBLA is responsible for bringing all the chapters in CT together. They hold conferences throughout the year, which provide opportunities for students to network with others, take part in competitions, and attend workshops.

Joshi is also one of the first women from the South Windsor chapter to ever run for state office, and this achievement means a lot to her.

“When I first joined FBLA, women were severely underrepresented. Out of 70 students, less than 5 of us were girls. However, I sincerely believe that as women, we should not let this stop us.”

Joshi never let these setbacks stop her ambitions. Last school year, she ran for State Treasurer and was not elected. As frustrating as this was for her, she never gave up and instead continued to put her all into her FBLA projects. The experience she gained from this provided her with the tools to emerge victorious in this year’s election.

One of the opportunities she had access to through FBLA was the National Fall Leadership Conference. She not only got to attend interesting workshops, but she established some incredible connections that proved helpful when running for Vice President this year.

“In the future, I hope to use these skills to connect with well-accomplished people and make a difference, and apply this to every aspect of my life,” said Joshi.

Joshi firmly believes that the skills learned in FBLA can be applied anywhere in life. Knowing how to network and bring people together can be a major factor in bringing change into the world, and she hopes to use her VP position to become an inspiration for other girls hoping to get into FBLA.
