Miley Cyrus showed off her newest tattoo over the 2017 summer break: an ink design that reveals a sunflower with leaves forming around it in the shape of a V. The tattoo symbolizes her eating habits since 2014 when she became a vegan (the tattoo captioned “Vegan for Life!”).

The famous singer not only shows off the world her commitment to the vegan movement, but she also displays her affection for various other small things with ink on her body. Miley has been adding to her collection of tats since 2007 when she got one at age 17. Her first tattoo is located under the ribcage, the words “Just Breathe” written on the left side. The design was a tribute to her friend Vanessa and her uncle who both died of lung disease.

“It reminds me not to take things for granted. I mean breathing-that was something none of them could do,” said Miley according to a blog on “Steal Her Style.” “The most basic thing. And I put it near my heart because that is where they will always be.”

Back in 2011 during her Corazon Gitano tour, tattoo artist Fabio Satori drew an anchor on Miley’s wrist. He claims the she chose the anchor because it symbolized feelings of security and comfort.

“Miley told her mother that she wanted something that refers to a safe port, something that reminded her that she always has a safe place to turn to,” stated Satori.

Amongst some of her other tattoos are a sugar skull, the words “Love Never Dies” written across her forearm, the word “KARMA” printed along her index finger, the word “LOVE” on her cartilage, and a heart on her pinky, etc. One of the tattoos that has stirred up more controversy is the equal sign she got on her ring finger also back in 2011. After tweeting a photo of the new tattoo with the words “All LOVE is equal” as a caption, Miley defended her cause despite the confrontation from people against LGBTQ rights.

“A lot of people mocked me-they said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight,”  Miley wrote in Glamour magazine. “Christianity is about love.”

Many fans seem to look up to Miley Cyrus as a liberal individual that promotes love and happiness amongst others via things like her Happy Hippie Foundation and her performance style. Viewed by so many as an empowering and creative female vocalist, Miley now has a total of 25 tattoos according to Jamie Primeau of BUSTLE.

After asking about Miley’s tattoos, 11th grader Cassidy Hanson of SWHS claims that “Some of them have good meaning that’s personal and other ones are kind of pointless in a way and they’re just there.”
