Energy drinks may give you that added boost that you need, but at what cost to your health?

Do you love energy drinks? Do you drink them daily? Drinking energy drinks may not be as good for you as you think. Certain brands of energy drinks are extremely unhealthy, and can cause side-effects. For instance, Reign, a brand of energy drink, puts 300 mg of caffeine and multiple artificial sweeteners, like Sucralose, in their drinks. Thankfully, more popular brands of energy drinks like Bang and Monster aren’t as unhealthy.

One of the best options if you are looking for an energy drink that is healthier for you would be Focus Aid. Focus Aid has the exact correct amount of Vitamin B and Niacin, while only containing 100 mg of caffeine, which is the perfect intake for 12-17 year olds. The main reason for energy drinks being bad for your health is the amount of sugar, even if the can says “0 sugar”, there are often many artificial super supplements in the drinks.

After all, the main reason people drink energy drinks is for boosted energy. However, there is still the question whether or not they actually do the job they’re intended to do. Possibly yes, but with all the added sugars, at what cost?

The energy drink that is most known to give you the longest lasting energy is the brand Spike. Along with this, Spike drinks are known to improve your memory and increase muscular work capacity. Spike drinks contain 350 mg of caffeine, but have no sugar, carbs or fats.

On the other hand, that iced coffee at your favorite coffee shop may not be any better for you than any energy drink. If you order just plain coffee, there are no calories. However, if you add any cream or sugar, that’s when things start to get unhealthy. Many are worried about missing out on all the benefits from energy drinks if you switch to coffee; however, that’s not necessarily true. Most of the “added benefits” in energy drink cans are completely unneeded, and are simply added vitamins and nutrients that are not essential in day to day life.

So next time you are looking to buy a drink for energy, think about the cost and benefits, and consider all possible options.
