On Monday, May 13th, South Windsor High School’s Girls Lacrosse team celebrated their seniors in a game against Simsbury. The South Windsor Lax girls arrived at the game ready for tough competition, but unfortunately ended up falling short to the Trojans in a devastating loss.
Despite the score, the most important thing for South Windsor Lax was celebrating one final home game with the team’s 11 seniors; therefore, deeming the game a success.
The seats were packed with family and friends coming together to support the seniors on their special night. Even a few of the youth players from the In-House, Bantams and Juniors came to see their role models out on the field.
Far from the end of their lacrosse careers, three of the seniors, goalie Catherine Downes, defender Kaitlin Hardy, and defender Angelina Bellizzi have committed to continue playing in college.
“We started off really hot, and although we’ve flattered a little, since then we’ve been able to win and compete at our normal level. Also, we’ve all been able to enjoy what will be our last season,” Downes said.
Although it was the last game these seniors will play on home turf, their season is far from over. With their 7-7 record, the Bobcats have a high chance of clinching a spot in the playoffs this year and look to continue their success in the first round.
“It’s crazy to think we are seniors now and our lacrosse season is almost over, but I am excited to see what we can do in states,“ Hardy explained.
Similar to Hardy, the rest of the Bobcats have high hopes for the games to come, and look to end their season with the fire they started it with.
The seniors prepare for their final away game of the regular season against Berlin on Thursday, May 16th.
