Sports Spotlight: Owen Verzella
Owen Verzella is #15, a senior defensive player on the South Windsor boys soccer team. This year, the boys team has had an incredible season with a 12-3-2. They even made it past the second round of the conference tournament with a 5-1 win over East Catholic on November 1st, and a 4-1 win over Darien.
According to Verzella, “The soccer team had been struggling to keep a 500 average, but this summer they put in the work, and we got a very good outcome for the season”.
But Verzella isn’t just a soccer player. As he heads off to college in the fall, he plans to study business, and while he still plans to play soccer at the collegiate level, he wants to start his own business when he graduates from college.
Like every high schooler, he enjoys hanging out with friends, and in his free time he enjoys mountain biking and playing flag football with his family. “One of the things I do in my free time is watch sports with my dad,” said Verzella.
Outside of his school life, he enjoys hiking with his dog, but what enjoys the most is being part of the Olympic Development Program. The program helps bring soccer to different communities all around the world, making lifelong soccer fans.
