The undefeated girls tennis team at SWHS has had a strong kickoff to the season, with a record of 7-0 and winning 3 of these games with sweeps.
This team, consisting of 20 girls, is led by captains: Genesis Cruz-Lugo, Cassie Polensky, and Lavanya Rathore as well as their head coach: Mrs. Janet Belval, a science teacher at SWHS.
They play 4 single and 3 double matches for each 16 game days; doubles, played with 2 players, and singles, played with 1 player.
Throughout the beginning of the season, the team has been dominating on the courts and has been able to hold their ground.
Having already won all of their games so far, the girl’s tennis team is looking forward to progressing more into their season.
One of the captains, senior Cassie Polansky, shares her hopes and dreams for the remainder of the season.
“As a team, I am hoping we not only qualify for the team state tournament but we make it far,” Polansky stated. “Last season we made it to the semifinals, and this year I hope we can find the same success!”
The Lady Bobcats have already been known for their integrity on the courts and they are hoping to use all their momentum to push them to greater heights.
“If we are always practicing as hard as we can as well as playing matches with as much energy as possible, then win or lose we can walk away knowing we did our best,” Polansky said.
Also, coming up on May 28th, the team will also host a Zebra Cup, which is run by senior captain, Genesis Cruz-Lugo.
“It is an event where teachers and students get to pair up and participate in a doubles play,” Cruz-Lugo stated. “All the proceeds go to charity and everyone can participate.”
Not only is this event a super fun activity to join, but it also helps give back to those in need.
If you have any questions regarding this event, feel free to reach out to the head of the Zebra Cup: Genesis Cruz-Lugo.
Overall, the girls tennis team has secured many wins with hard work and determination. We can’t wait to see what this team will accomplish next!
