South Windsor Public Schools is currently entered in MagicSchool AI’s “March Magic Competition.” The competition consists of the top 64 schools nationwide that utilize MagicSchool the most.

MagicSchool AI is used to help students improve their school work or better understand topics, and South Windsor Public Schools is one of many school districts nationwide that has taken advantage of the tool to enhance performance in the classroom, with it being used primarily in both the high school and middle school.

“Between [Timothy Edwards Middle School] and the high school is where we get most of our use. For the high school, our most recent numbers are around 70 teachers. TE tends to be low 30’s,” SWHS tech coach and yearbook teacher Mr. Ed Duclos said.

MagicSchool AI has been cited by numerous students as a great help academically, including sophomore Fisher Bonin and freshman Eden Dalpe.

“When using MagicSchool AI in my studies, I feel very confident,” Bonin told The Prowl.

“Sometimes it can be inaccurate, but most of the time it’s useful information that helps me with my studies,” Dalpe commented.

Confidence is a key aspect of achieving success in the classroom, and MagicSchool AI is helping to enhance it in students. However, students aren’t the only group that MagicSchool is benefitting, as teachers are finding ways to integrate this tool in classrooms.

“I think what it does for a lot of teachers [is that] it basically allows a student and individual within the whole entire class or a group of them to be working with the tool while allowing the teacher to spend time with another group…it allows the teacher to really do more one-on-one or small groups, and they might not have had that chance before,” Duclos said.

Due to the South Windsor School’s continued use of the tool, they qualify to be part of the ‘MarchMagic’ Competition. The ‘MarchMagic’ Competition is a March Madness inspired contest hosted by the MagicSchool AI platform throughout the month of March.

South Windsor was entered as a number 2 seed in the “Scholarly South” conference, and have since moved on to the Round of 16, where they are currently up against the Plainfield Community School Corporation, the 3 seed.

A school can move on in the tournament by having more student usage each week than the school they’re matched up with.

“It’s based on student use, they’re specifically looking at not how teachers are using it for themselves but how students are using it and we don’t exactly know the criteria but it’s all student use,” Duclos told The Prowl.

The school has performed wonderfully in the bracket thus far, though it needs to enlist the help from the students in order to advance, and hopefully win the championship.
