As spring approaches, the lacrosse team shows a lot of promise this year.
One of the team’s top scorers from last year, Jalen Canales, returns with 63 points under his belt in the previous season. Canales is looking to add many more this year.
The Bobcats also have D3 Lake Forest commit, Kyle Katzbeck, who plays middie. Katzbeck’s courageous tenacity running up and down the field not breaking a sweat helps bolster the ‘Cats lineup through the entire field.
With the help of Adam Saada on defense, Isaac Gerber on long stick middie, and Mason DeCiantis on the attack, the team has leaders and the morale is high.
The team may have to work past a slow start considering the abundance of new players, but this serves as a great way to build team chemistry and communication with others.
Junior Mason DeCiantis looks for the team to work extremely hard to give the team their best chance, telling The Prowl “Moving into the season we hope to see hard work, dedication, heart, and 100 percent effort by whoever decides to sign up. We need our guys to dial in their stick skills and shake off that bit of rust.”
DeCiantis continued by saying “Lacrosse is bigger than a physical sport as it is difficult mentally as well.” The Bobcats have a plethora of players ready to give their all to the sport and then some.
The South Windsor lacrosse team will go through a series of hard battles in the season ahead, with games against teams like East Catholic, Conard, and Southington. These teams usually get played against every year, with these three being the biggest threat to the Bobcats.
Katzbeck is aware of the potential setbacks ahead, but still believes in his team. “I think this year will be a slow start because we are missing those key players from last year, but I think we are going to pick it up and succeed this season,” Katzbeck said.
Despite the team losing its top performer from last year in Max Plunske, who scored over 100 goals in the season, the team is in high spirits and ready to take on anyone who would dare defy their victory.
The South Windsor high school boys lacrosse will look to have a good year, especially with the coaches continuing over from last year in Coach Moore and Coach Dan, who are both ready and eager to hit the field with the team, leaving everything on the field with no regrets.
