On Wednesday, October 10th, The Bobcat Prowl was given a look into the steps Mayor Delnicki and her fellow Town Council members are taking towards improving their cohesion.
On September 18th, Mayor Delnicki was asked to resign from her mayoral position. Since then, the Town Council has collectively agreed to put their differences aside and work together to address the issues that were raised, moving towards a more unified council.
According to a memo released from the Town Council on September 18th at 5:00 pm, the issues being addressed included, “Lack of leadership, withholding information, lack of transparency, and vote of no confidence from at least 5 of her fellow councilors.”
In an interview with Republican Committee Member and current Town Councilor, Toby Lewis, news of reconciliation and progress within the council was shared.
Before these changes, The Prowl had communication with Lewis, who expressed his concern for the Council as a whole. However, he now feels the Council has improved their communication and is becoming increasingly more united.
In response to the leadership issues, Mayor Delnicki has taken the constructive criticism from her team and shifted her approach as South Windsor’s Mayor.
“The mayor has been relaying information and [improved] communication while seeking [further] input. It’s already becoming more of a partnership,” Lewis explained.
With this in mind, the Town Council looks forward to fulfilling the promises they made to South Windsor residents during the previous election. The council campaigned that there would be a new transparency regarding town finances, and that their end goal is to lower taxes for South Windsor residents, like themselves.
So far, South Windsor has yet to see significant improvement on these issues, but the council and residents remain hopeful.
“I’m hoping that we can accomplish things that make sense and benefit the town. We need to be outspoken to stop the noise of divisive rhetoric. My hope is that we are able to influence more unity in our community,” Lewis told The Prowl.
In the meantime, South Windsor’s Town Council will continue to foster positive relationships and work towards improving their abilities as town politicians.
