As per a statement from Mayor Delnicki released on September 21st, Delniki is not resigning from her position as Mayor.
“I, along with my fellow councilors have agreed to work out our differences and provide me the opportunity to demonstrate that I can be an effective leader,” Delnicki wrote in the statement. “I am committed to improving my communication and transparency, ensuring that all councilors receive the information they need.”
The South Windsor Town Council shared a memo, calling for a meeting, that would discuss the lack of cooperation between the current town council members and their mayor.
Republican town council member, Toby Lewis, shared his thoughts on the issues presented.
“She’s got the right skill set; she’s got the love for the town. She’s got the time to dedicate, she’s got the experience. She knows the people, but there’s more to leadership than that,” Lewis said of Delnicki. “A good leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. I would like to be shown the way.”
The members of the South Windsor Republican Party have been struggling with the decision to remove Delnicki from her mayoral position for months behind the scenes.
“If they [the public] knew what we knew, they would say oh! That makes sense!” Lewis told The Prowl.
Last week, members of the South Windsor Republican Party called for Delnicki to step down and become a fellow member of the council, rather than maintain her position as Mayor. The public response on town social media platforms was one of concern that their voices were not being heard, and many felt that they had no say in the matter.
Lewis mentioned that the public already had a say in this issue by voting for the members of the council.
The special meeting planned for Friday, September 20 was canceled and the above statement was issued the next day.
Despite disagreements between the fellow republican town council members, they have agreed with Delnicki to set aside their differences and work together as a united team to make “South Windsor the best town in Connecticut.”
This is a continuing story and more updates will be available in the coming days.
