On Friday, August 23rd, the South Windsor High School Boys Varsity Soccer team had their first preseason game against Ellington where they dominated the Knights 8-2, at Nevers Park.
During the previous season, senior Tyler Romero suffered from an MCL sprain, preventing him from playing. However, Romero refused to let injuries hinder his abilities during the upcoming season. Back and healthier than ever, Romero made various contributions towards the Cat’s victory over Ellington.
“I am feeling great about this upcoming season, everyone has been putting in a lot of work over the summer and I am excited to see how this season is going to go. I feel like we will do well because we have been working hard and putting in extra hours,” said Romero.
Junior Hayden Xhokaxhiu played a great game as well, scoring 2 goals for the team in the first half of the game, providing the momentum for a win.
Alongside Xhokaxhiu, Fab Ponce had a strong defensive game.
“I am very excited for this season, it’s my senior year and I wouldn’t want to play with any other team but this one,” Ponce told The Prowl.
Senior, Josiah Chamberlain, contributed a goal for the Bobcats, making it his first of the season. Chamberlain believes the team is ready for the upcoming season and knows the team will be a force to reckon with.
“We have a great group of guys this year who have been working extremely hard to prepare for the season. I honestly believe we have the potential to make it far this year,” commented Chamberlain.
It’s no doubt the Bobcats have been working hard in the off-season. The team is on track to beat their previous record of 8-6-4. The first official game of the season is away at Sage Park against Berlin, on Saturday, August 31st.
