With the spring sports season only a few weeks away, South Windsor is still looking for a girls lacrosse coach.
Coach Duclos has been a coach at South Windsor High School for over 30 years, with nearly all of those years as the girls lacrosse coach. He resigned from coaching in June, and South Windsor is still searching to fill the position.
Because the girls lacrosse season practices officially start next week, players are starting to get worried about what will happen, along with what the plan for the upcoming season will be.
“I’m hopeful the new coach, whoever they may be, will transition into the role smoothly since the team is upperclassmen dominant this year,” junior lacrosse player Hailey Deptula said.
Deptula will miss their previous coach, Coach Duclos, very much and hopes the new coach will embody great leadership like he did.
Deptula is taking a positive outlook on this situation and believes no matter who the coach is, the team will still have a great season.
“It’s definitely frustrating just because the season is so close,” senior Catherine Downs explained.
Downs said the team has done a lot to try and find a coach, by making sure the job is posted everywhere and by asking everyone they know.
Along with Deptula, Downs says she has faith that the team won’t struggle and, whoever the coach may be, they know that the program will continue to be successful especially with how lacrosse has run in the past.
With interviews currently being held to find a new coach, the players are optimistic that there will be a coach choice within the week.
South Windsor has undergone other coaching staff changes recently. Congratulations to Ryan Kaufman, formerly the boys assistant soccer coach, who has now been officially named the varsity girls soccer coach.
