The 2023-2024 Indoor Track season has officially come to an end here at SWHS, with the Central Connecticut Conference (CCC’s) happening this past Saturday. The athletes worked tirelessly the week before CCC’s, practicing their hardest in preparation for their big day.
Currently, the few athletes who made it to states are working hard to get ready for the meet, which is quickly approaching on Saturday, February 10th.
A highlight, and new change that this season brought for the team, was the new sprint coach, as well as a girls new head coach. With the loss of last year’s girls head coach, Mr. Leon, there were some empty shoes that needed to be filled.
The girls new head coach is Coach Peter Anthony. Coach Anthony also serves as the boys head coach for outdoor track, as well as the boys head coach for boys cross country. He was a great asset to the girls team this year, and they look forward to having him coach again next season.
The team was met with a surprise this season when they were told they were going to have a sprint coach. This is something that never happened before, shockwaves reverberated across the team, but she soon became a team favorite. Coach Griebel expressed how she felt about being a part of the team this year when talking to The Prowl, explaining how the main season went overall.
“I was [very] excited about the opportunity to work with a talented group of athletes and coaches,” expanded Griebel, “The season went well. There were a lot of PRs.”
“I feel really good about this season. I believe that I have truly been able to achieve higher feats and accomplishments that I can claim to be proud of. I’ve recently broken the school’s record again and I won first place in the CCC’s 55 meter dash. I’m still hungry though and will always strive to improve”, said Boateng.
With the season coming to a finish, a few athletes spoke out about how they thought their season went this year. Senior Lloyd Boateng and Freshman Sadhana Ganesan spoke about how their impressive years went.
Freshman Sadhana Ganesan explained, “Track season has been really good. I feel like as a freshman I did good… Overall, I think I could have done better though.”
Spirits are still high with some of the best athletes on South Windsor High Schools Indoor Track team as they have the Last Chance State Qualifier, CIAC Class L Championships and the newly to this year the New Balance Nationals for Indoor Track coming up soon.
From The Bobcat Prowl, congratulations to all of you, and best of luck in all of your upcoming features.
