Senior Lloyd Boateng stands as one of South Windsor’s greatest short distance runners. Recently, Boateng has been making great times in the 55 meter dash. Most recently, he ran a 6.59 second 55 meter race, and landed 2nd place in his heat.
Compared to anyone who is bent on improving themselves, Boateng has made immense progress from last year, bringing his previous personal best time in the 55 meter dash down from 6.63 to 6.59. This makes one wonder about, and hopefully anticipate, the upcoming 2024 outdoor track season.
“He broke the 55 meter record for the school and motivates the team to get better during practice”, said junior Shawn Baidoo.
Boateng is highly praised amongst his teammates. Although he spends his time training and working on himself, he still manages to lift his teammates up.
“Track improved my daily life because it made me more fit and focused as well as gave me some or at least another purpose as well as a confidence boost,” explained Boateng.
Running has made a positive change for him. Boateng attributes his success to football and indoor/outdoor track to Coach Hodge. Odds are, South Windsor wouldn’t have this star on the track without Hodge.
When asked how this sport has made a positive impact for him, Boateng said, “Indoor has over 55 schools involved, and because it’s inside, I kind of feel more focused in there”.
Indoor and outdoor environments have different communities and feelings for Boateng. However, indoor seems to be his stronger place, as he seems to be more comfortable running on the indoor track.
As his indoor season is coming to a successful close soon, the South Windsor community can look forward to his outdoor season in the spring.
