The South Windsor High School Annex Building has become fully functional for the 2023-2024 school term. This building will provide additional capacity for the growing student population at South Windsor High School.

“I believe that having classes in the annex building will provide more space for learning and teaching purposes” sophomore Kaleigh Aparo stated.

Although the majority of classes remain in the main building, various courses and programs have been relocated into the Annex building. World language classes, business classes, culinary classes, early childhood development classes, and the alternative education program are a few courses found in the Annex building.

Due to the different class locations, students may find themselves traveling between the two buildings frequently. Although this added freedom may seem alarming, there are many benefits.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for students to experience different classroom learning environments, almost like college students do as they have classes in various buildings on a given campus,” Ellen Festi, a business teacher, told The Prowl.

Despite the benefits, some students still had concerns about the changes. “Since we now have to travel to another building the weather could pose other problems such as thunderstorms, snow, extreme temperatures, etc.,” explained Kaleigh Aparo.

To suppress the arising apprehension, various accommodations have been made to create a comfortable transition for the students and staff of South Windsor High School. An extra minute of passing time has been added to the student’s schedule to accommodate the further distance between classes. These efforts made by South Windsor High School staff do not go unrecognized.

“We all understand how much work our admin team, IT, and the summer painting team, building maintainers and custodians did to make this transition as smooth as possible,” said Festi.

The efforts made by the South Windsor staff throughout the summer will surely pay off.

“I think students will be very comfortable at the Annex and the staff is excited for the new year,” James Abbott, a business teacher, added.

The SWHS Annex building will create many opportunities for success during the 2023-2024 school year for both students and faculty.
