On Wednesday, May 31st, Riverside Reptiles came to South Windsor High School to present their different scaly friends to the science classes.

Riverside Reptiles is a local educational center that is dedicated to reptiles and amphibians. They have animals from around the world that they allow citizens to come and get an up close and personal look and experience with the animals. Riverside brought seven reptiles and two amphibians. This included an African Bullfrog, a Tiger Salamander, and a three foot alligator which was a class favorite throughout all of the students who saw the animals that day.

“It’s a good connection between the water quality in the environmental unit and the animals we impact,” said Teacher Mrs. Eitel.

The Riverside Reptiles have come to South Windsor High School before, in 2022, and Eitel claims that they will definitely be coming back to South Windsor next year. She wants to show the connection between amphibians and reptiles to her classes. In Eitel’s physical science class, they are growing frogs from tadpoles and this presentation was a great way to tie the science into it all together.

This presentation was not only entertaining but educational as well.

“I learned that animals are different in many ways from skin texture to how they handle different situations,” said sophomore Jalen Canales. Students were able to enjoy the unique animals in a fascinating way while learning new information about the wildlife we sometimes cannot encounter in our everyday lives.

In the future, students and staff are looking forward to the annual reptile presentation in their science classes, and hope that the Riverside Reptiles come back for years to come for more fun and facts.
