Madame President Has Arrived
On the 19th of May 2023, Angelina Francesca Bellizzi was voted into office for President of the Class of 2024. Bellizzi, 16, went against Rayan Zaki and Olivia Kvadus. The race was close with Zaki, the President of the Class of 2024 close behind in the polls until the very end.
Bellizzi hopes to achieve new goals for not only her class but the school in general as well.
“What I want to focus on is helping the younger students get more involved. Taking advice from a student rather than a council is more personal. Therefore, I will create a program where student ambassadors could go into freshmen classes during study hall periods once a month to motivate students,” Bellizzi stated.
In addition to mentorship, Bellizzi also wants to increase school spirit at SWHS.
“I want more pep-rallies. We only had one this year, but we could definitely have more,” Bellizzi announced, “I want our students to be proud to be Bobcat again.”
To make these changes possible, Bellizzi wants to reform the image and attitude of the class of 2024.
“I also want to take this class out of the dumps; fundraisers every month, with students more involved,” explained Bellizzi.
Despite her win, Bellizzi already has had some opposing feedback from students who look less favorably upon her.
“There has been some negativity around the win, but I will take my supporters and what I have now with me and just have a great senior year,” she said.
In her own future, Bellizzi plans on becoming a nurse in the New England area. So much so that this summer, Bellizzi is volunteering at Saint Francis Hospital to get familiarity with the hospital environment and how they run.
“I also have an instinct when someone falls or gets hurt… I want to take care of them.”
Bellizzi has made it clear that her caring attitude and dedication to helping people will carry on throughout her Presidency.
