East Hartford, CT – The varsity Bobcats played their season opener against the East Hartford Hornets at the Hive. Many SWHS students came out to support their team for the first game of the year, and the student section was loud and dominant with the help of football moms and dads.

The first quarter of this game was all defense as both teams remained scoreless throughout. There were minimal big plays at “The Hive,” but things changed once the second quarter began.

About three and a half minutes into the second quarter Bobcats running back Julian Ibes took a handoff into the endzone for the first score of the game. Just six minutes later, the Bobcats put seven more points on the board to make it a two possession game at 14-0 thanks to a touchdown strike by quarterback Connor Kapisak to wide receiver Colin Ryan. At this point in the game the momentum was clearly with South Windsor. UConn commit Kevon “KK” Jones and East Hartford began to lose a grasp on the game. The score remained heading into halftime.

In the second half, it was more of the same for the Bobcats. Connor Kapisak threw his second touchdown of the evening to wide receiver Ben Custer. Just moments later, after regaining possession, Colin Ryan hauled in his second touchdown of the night from Kapisak. With the score being 28-0, the game seemed to be out of reach.

It was all but over by the time the fourth quarter came. Additional rushing touchdowns were scored by Julian Ibes which was his second of the evening, running back Randy Holmes along with two scores by East Hartford. The end result was a comfortable victory for South Windsor with a score of 41-14. The Bobcats now face off with rival Glastonbury at home on Saturday at 11 a.m.
