‘Say Yes’ to the (Prom) Dress
The Class of 2024 is getting into the ‘prom frenzy’ as many girls have already begun to pick their dresses, so let’s take a look at some of the trends for South Windsor High School’s prom ‘23.
Junior prom is set for May 12th, from 6 to 10:30 pm at the Downtown Marriott in Hartford. As such, girls have started picking out their dresses for this magical night. The Instagram account swhs24promdresses provides a space to share and post their dresses to their fellow classmates. An unexpected benefit of the account is that all these girls have had nothing but supportive responses from their peers, uplifting each other and raising their spirits for the upcoming night.
All the dresses that have been shared so far are maintaining the long, formal look that is tradition at South Windsor High School. “Long dresses just feel like prom,” commented junior Ava Schunder.
Long prom dresses have become a part of the culture here in town and most people would never even consider a short dress as prom attire as it is in other parts of the country. Particularly in the South, a new trend of flowy, floral dresses has sparked up, which was met with a considerable amount of backlash.
“Short dresses feel more like homecoming, but long have that fancy look that is so important to prom.”
Another trend that can be noticed for this year’s prom dresses are the colors blue and green as they seem to be dominating the Instagram page. Nonetheless, each dress remains unique and special to each individual girl through the differing styles & accents of those dresses. One thing that will remain a surprise until the day of will be the different pieces of jewelry everyone uses.
Besides the dress, there are many other important items that go into the prom outfit: nails, hair, heels, and accessories.
No matter how each girl styles herself, the most important thing is that she feels gorgeous and her best self on the day; that is the beauty of prom and the positive reactions towards everyone’s prom ‘unveiling’ has further reaffirmed this.
