Start of the South Windsor versus RHAM girls basketball game.

South Windsor Girls Basketball was on a 7 game win streak, until a tough loss against RHAM Monday, February 6th cut that streak loose. The Lady Bobcats went into the game with a record of 12-5, while the raptors had a record of 10-6.

The Lady Bobcats were fired up and ready for a rematch against the Raptors, who they lost to 41-53 earlier in their season, looking to even the score.

After the first half, the Bobcats led 23-20. The Bobcats led the entire game, until 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter when senior Sarah West of the Raptors was fouled while shooting, went to the foul line, made both free throws to make the score 45-47 Raptors.

South Windsor senior, Anna Matus, knew that it wasn’t over flying down the court to hit a jumper and tie up the score at 47-47. Turning the ball over, the Bobcats secured the ball with 4.7 seconds left in regulation, calling a timeout to make up a play. Matus shared how she felt before the ending of regulation “With 5 seconds left in the game, our ball, a lot was going to my head. When coach set up a play for me to get the final shot I felt ready. I had been in these types of situations before and felt confident.”

Unfortunately, Matus was not able to finish the layup, causing the game to go into overtime.

Matus took over when two of the Bobcats starters fouled out. Unfortunately, West was too much for the Bobcats, getting to the foul line 14 times and scoring 29 points. Leading the Raptors to take the win over the Bobcats 56-55.

Senior Olivia Petgrave shared her feelings with the Prowl on the outcome of the game. “Even though I do think we played extremely well, it wasn’t the result we wanted, which was very disappointing. If we all just made a couple more shots, free throws, even that could’ve changed the outcomes of the game even though we were extremely cheated by the refs throughout the whole thing.”
