After becoming a viral sensation on the internet, the soundtrack of Disney’s Encanto is breaking film and music industry records alike.

Currently sitting on the #1 spot of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, the musical sensation We Don’t Talk About Bruno has been a massive hit for Disney and the Encanto team. Recently the song’s creators revealed the story of how the viral sensation was created. 

Set in Colombia, Encanto tells the story of Maribel Madrigal, a relatively normal girl born into a family gifted with magical powers. All of her family members have magical powers used to help their town, the Encanto, while Maribel was not given a power. The movie follows how Maribel discovers her uniqueness in a fun, upbeat, musical screenplay.

After Maribel breaks into the room of her mysteriously vanished uncle Bruno, the Madrigals break into song and dance explaining how “We don’t talk about Bruno-no-no-no.”

Written by Hamilton writer Lin Manuel Miranda, he “mused about making a song that was spooky and like a Colombian song pattern called ‘montuno,’” ScreenRant reported in an article. “[Miranda] then proceeded to compose the chords that very moment.”

Last week the track hit the #1 spot after spending the past 5 weeks climbing the Hot 100 Chart, according to Billboard’s official website. We Don’t Talk About Bruno “knocked Adele’s “Easy On Me” out of the top spot and became the first Disney song to reach the pinnacle of the chart since “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” in 1993,” Stated CNN in an article. For comparison, “The Oscar-winning song “Let It Go” from Disney’s “Frozen” peaked at No. 5 on the chart in 2014.”

Clearly a record-breaking hit, We Don’t Talk About Bruno isn’t the only Encanto song taking over the internet. Surface Pressure, “sung by Luisa Madrigal voice actor Jessica Darrow, is now the second song from Encanto to chart inside the top 10,” Stated PopBuzz in an article. “That achievement now means that Encanto is the first Disney animated movie ever (!) to have multiple songs chart within the top 10.” With the success of the movie’s soundtrack, behind the scenes, this movie has been a dream come true for the cast.

After opening a toy figurine of her character, “I was fully sobbing, like, just bawling”…“But it was a real reaction because it was like, ‘Press the button and my voice comes out of the frigging doll.’ It’s insane,” Stephanie Beatriz, the voice of Mirabel, said in an interview with Digital Spy. “It’s wild. It’s all those times of me, you know, imagining myself as these heroines and singing the songs to myself in my mirror in the bathroom at home, and now it’s really real. I got to really sing Disney songs in a Disney movie that I’m in!”

With the Encanto soundtrack breaking all-time records, people are certainly talking about Bruno, leaving fans hungry for an Encanto sequel with more catchy Colombian bops.
