How Taylor Swift Reclaimed Confidence in Her Music

Since the age of 14 American pop and country music singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has been pursuing her goals and making music. Almost all of her songs are handwritten by herself. Songs like, “You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home” and “Better Man,” were sung by Miley Cryus and Little Big Town, but were written by Swift. A genius in her own work, unexpectedly lost all rights to her music.

Taylor Swift’s holder, Big Machine, sold to private-equity group Ithaca Holdings, owned by music manager Scooter Braun. Taylor Swift claims that  “incessant, manipulative bullying” had happened for years during their professional relationship. For $300 million in 2019, Braun sold that music to Shamrock Holdings, another private equity company.

According to Braun, before the drama, he and Taylor were friends. They met in 2010 and created a friendship. Braun explains he didn’t do this personally to Taylor, but did it because he is in a business. “On a business level, Braun’s move was smart,” says an article on the rerecordings by Time. Whoever has Taylors first recordings, the masters label, gets profits anytime it is streamed or bought.

When Taylor Swift caught sight of this she called it “unexpected and gross.” Staying appalled of Bryan’s moves, she decided to take charge, and get her music back. Swift cannot sue Scooter Bruan, but she can rerecord the past. Taylor Swift started to re-record her old albums for her profits. If her new rerecorded songs are streamed then she will make profit from them, and she can put them in commercials, songs, movies and more for her own profit.

When Taylor Swift released her first re-recorded album “Fearless,” fans loved it. Senior Riley Heafy-Deanglis says, “Taylor swift was one of my favorite artists growing up, her rerecording her old songs was very nostalgic.”

This isn’t done yet, Swift has five more albums to re-record. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Taylor Swift says, “I have plenty of surprises in store. I want to thank you guys for supporting me through this ongoing saga, and I can’t wait for you to hear what I’ve been dreaming up.”
