JoJo Siwa, an internet personality, dancer, and known influencer for younger audiences, has decided to come out as a part of the LGBT+ community. 

JoJo Siwa started her career as a dancer on the show Dance Moms in Abby Lee’s dance company very young, showing the fans her skills and her personality throughout her years on the show. After leaving, JoJo had taken her fame with younger audiences and became a youtuber, showing her daily life, her love for music and all things rainbow. She creates music for children who love it and has been doing so with a fun, loud personality.

Recently, Siwa posted a picture of a gift from her cousin, labeled ‘Best Gay Cousin Ever’ and that was her official way of ‘comging out’ to the world. This received a large swarm of praise, congratulations and love from people on the internet, her peers and other adults a part of the LGBT community.  It blew up fast, with people being surprised to some already having an inkling she would based on her content.

But the one common reaction was how beneficial this all was for the younger audience she holds. 

David Oliver, a writer for USA Today shares his own story of how when he was growing up as an LGBT+ kid, he wished he had the same role model. “JoJo Siwa coming out is so important.. her audience is younger and kids being able to look up to someone that’s NOT straight could help them discover themselves and hopefully make future generations even more open-minded.”

And that is the truth, younger kids deserve to have diverse role models in their lives to look for guidance and their own inspiration. It’s a large step to making LGBT+ people more commonplace in society and having kids form their own opinions on such topics is an amazing thing in itself. Siwa acts as one of the few influences kids have in finding their identities and being open to others’.

JoJo Siwa continues to show her younger audiences it is okay to embrace all true parts of yourself, no matter what you do. And this new figure opens even more opportunities for other people to stand up for what’s right and love those around them regardless of their labels.
