SWFTK Wrapped Up Their Year Successfully with The Annual Dance Marathon
February 22, 2020
On Friday, February 7th, South Windsor For the Kids (SWFTK) club members gathered together to celebrate the annual dance marathon at South Windsor High School. Throughout the night, students in attendance participated in many activities including games, dancing and a final push to fundraising. All of the proceeds raised from fundraising were directly donated to Children’s Connecticut Medical Center.
To kick off the night, many activities were laid out throughout the cafeteria. Every person there was given the opportunity to participate in many activities like ping pong, baggo, four square, and spike ball. But, the major event of the dance marathon was learning the dance routine. Spilt up by small breaks and intermissions, the dance was learned in small segments to produce a final, outstanding and coordinated routine. To fill the intermissions, multiple guest speakers were brought to the stage to discuss their experiences with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). Each speaker talked about the life changing effects the CCMC had on them, from birth until now. Alongside all of the fun and inspiration, the main purpose of the event was to put a final push on the club fundraising. Shirts, bracelets, pins and raffle tickets were being sold throughout the night. Additionally, venmo, credit card, and cash donations were also accepted.
To put an end to this event, SWFTK club leaders teamed up with UCONN’s HuskyTHON leader’s to add up the final total for the night and prepare to reveal it. At the cue of the music, the signs displaying the total of over $16,000 were revealed. Although the club goal was 18,000 dollars this year, it will not go unnoticed. All of the proceeds made will be donated directly to help CCMC and the patients currently receiving care there.
